Born in 1988 and raised in the Kutloanong location in the Free State, John Tsunke started dancing at an early age.
With no formal training, he joined the Sibikwa Arts Centre in Benoni from 2008 – 2010, doing a course in Performing Arts. He was later accepted as a graduate with Mzansi Productions where he worked with choreographers like Mari-Louise Basson and performed pieces by Tim Le Roux ad Celeste Botha. Other choreographers that he has worked with include Adele blank, Gregory Vuyani Maqoma, Juan Carlos Osma and the Director of El Colegio Del Cuerpo in Colombia, Alvaro Restrepo. Whilst at Joburg Ballet John has performed in the productions of Don Quixote, Swan Lake, La Bayadère, Le Corsaire and many more. NING
He has also choreographed a piece called “Fearless” for Joburg Ballet and “Perfect Darkness” his first full production, was performed at Space.com at the Joburg Theatre in December 2015. For 2014 and 2015 John also worked as a teacher in the company’s Development School. In 2015 John joined Ilanga Youth Dance Co. as a contemporary teacher. His piece “Emotional Relevance”, choreographed for four Ilanga dancers, was awarded 90%+ in the National Eisteddfod of South Africa.
